As Campaigns for the 2027 general elections officially begin, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Rivers State has called on political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to keep the process peaceful, issue based and avoid conducts capable of undermining the electoral process.
In a statement by Assistant Director of the Media and Communication Unit, Mr. Henry Ayede, the Rivers State Director of NOA, Dr. Edward Banigo urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to focus on policies, programmes and practical solutions rather than personal attacks, hate speech or intimidation.
“Candidates should clearly present their visions and development plans and engage the electorate through respectful and constructive dialogue,” the agency said.
According to the statement, Dr. Banigo specifically warned against utterances and actions that may lead to violence, misinformation and threaten public order.
The NOA advised citizens to study the electoral laws, respect the rights of others, stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, throughout the campaign period.
“Remain peaceful, informed, vigilant and law-abiding,” the statement stressed, calling on Rivers people to base their choices on competence, character and concrete development plans.
The statement added that the NOA remains committed to public improving public awareness aimed at ensuring active, informed participation in the electoral process.
