The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has strongly condemned the recent invasion of Ueken community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, which led to the killing of a young resident, Goodluck Dimkpa.

Speaking with our correspondent, MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke described the incident as very unfortunate and deeply troubling, warning against a recurrence of the violence experienced in Benue State. “The killing of yesterday is bad and very unfortunate. We are getting preliminary information about how the herders gained access to the farmland, and it appears some hoodlums may be collecting money and granting access illegally.”

Nsuke emphasized the need for vigilance and community coordination, urging residents to take necessary precautions to secure themselves and work with local leaders. “We will try to work with the local community, and in the meantime, we urge people to stay safe and take precautions. Everyone must be alert, engage with their community chiefs, leaders, and youth to know what steps are appropriate to adopt.” He called on the Hausa community in Rivers State to intervene swiftly to prevent further escalation and appealed for calm and cooperation. “We want the Hausa community in Rivers State to take urgent action to ensure these issues are resolved.

We will try to bring everybody together to address the problem, we do not want any deep crisis in the Ogoni axis,” he said. Nsuke further revealed that MOSOP is initiating engagement with all stakeholders, including the herders, the local community, and security operatives at the state level. “We will contact security agencies at the state level to see how they can help us.

We must ensure this situation doesn’t escalate beyond Ueken or Tai. As we speak, Tai and Rivers State are bleeding.” According to reports, the suspected herdsmen invaded Ueken, the ancestral home of the Tai Kingdom, and murdered Goodluck Dimkpa, a father of one, on 25 June, 2025. The attack has reportedly caused panic and led to residents fleeing the community.
