The governors that won elections on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform have made it known that they are not members of any other political group before the 2027 general electioneering campaigns, showing their undivided loyalty to the ruling party.
This was announced by the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, following an overnight meeting held in Abuja on Monday. He explained that the forum has never made any agreement with anyone.
The announcement follows the recent announcements by the Federal Capital Territory Minister and PDP member Nyesom Wike, who is part of the Federal Executive Council as the leader of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, to ensure that President Bola Tinubu wins a second term.
In an interview with the media recently, Wike alleged that Governors Uzodimma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are leading a political opposition campaign against him due to the existence of his coalition that gives room for contesting the ruling party candidates in the upcoming elections.
As a way of directly responding to the above political strategies, the APC governors were committed to rejecting any structure that would bring about ambiguity, divided loyalty, or conflicting interests in the party.
While reading out the statement made after their meeting, Uzodimma pointed out that the primary mandate of the forum was to support only the official candidates of the party at all levels of elections.
As such, the forum has said that its members will neither get involved in nor back any political deal that would in any way undermine the re-election of the president and the political position of the APC. Thus, the campaign structures for the party will be completely aligned with the strategies of the president.
