President Bola Tinubu has said no individual should be made to suffer or face injustice for writing critical reports about him or calling him names.
Speaking during a joint session of the National Assembly in commemoration of the 2025 Democracy Day on Thursday, Tinubu affirmed his commitment to free expression and democratic values.
“While malicious slander and libel should not go unattended, no one should bear the brunt of injustice for merely writing a bad report about me or calling me names. Democracy requires a fair degree of tolerance for harsh words and stinging insults.
“Call me names, call me whatever you will, and I will still call upon democracy to defend your right to do so. Mr. Senate President, Mr Speaker, Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members”, the former governor of Lagos State said.

Tinubu further stated that, although Nigeria is not perfect, it remains strong. He added that while democracy is not invincible, it is very much alive.
According to him, this signifies that Nigeria’s dream of becoming a prosperous and happy nation is still within reach—and remains worth fighting for.
He noted that the country is at an inflexion point, undergoing a structural and fundamental transformation towards a more secure future.
