Security expert condemns mass vandalisation of electrical installations in Ogoni

By Mark Lenu

An indigene of Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State who doubles as a security expert, Godspower Ipianeh has condemned the mass vandalization of electrical installations including transformers and cables in some parts of Khana Local Government Area of the state.

In a chat with our correspondent, the security expert called for stringent measures to be put in place to arrest and prosecute offenders without compromise and delay as he also urged the people of the area to help secure the electrical facilities.

He said even if the entire state receives electricity, some parts of Khana will experience blackouts due to the degree of vandalism in the area.

“Every right-thinking person knows that electricity is an indispensable part of development. But it is sad that when you get to some communities in Khana local government, some persons are being used to vandalize electrical installations such as transformers and cables.

“If you go to the Kapnor community, you will find out that all the cables leading to the customary court within the Zaapkor axis down to the Gwara community had been removed.

“If you go to Kaani Junction and straight up to Gure, all the cables are no longer there. What it means is that even if there is electricity in all parts of Rivers State, there will be no electricity in Babbe Kingdom.

“So, it is a sorry situation and very annoying but we thank God that some arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing to unravel the motive behind it

“I, therefore, advise that the communities in Ogoni should come up with a joint local security team to monitor these electrical facilities because this vandalism is done basically at night.

“Also, some stringent measures should be put in place to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators without delays to deter others,” Ipianeh said.
