Victor Tulutu Briggs Foundation Awards Scholarships to 50 UniPort Students

The Victor Tulutu Briggs Foundation has awarded scholarships to 50 deserving students at the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria. This initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting education and fostering the academic growth of young Nigerians, providing them with the resources to succeed in their studies.

The beneficiaries, who include both undergraduate and postgraduate students from various disciplines, were presented with their scholarship awards.

The scholarships aim to alleviate the financial burden of university education, especially for students who demonstrate both academic potential and dedication to their studies. Each award covers the complete cost of tuition and also includes a monthly stipend to support the students’ living expenses.

The foundation emphasized that these scholarships are part of a commitment made in October during the maiden youth political participation and governance training program.

This program was organized in collaboration with the University of Port Harcourt’s Centre for Politics and highlighted the foundation’s dedication not only to education but also to empowering young people in political and governance matters. The goal of the partnership is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for meaningful civic engagement, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s democratic future.

Key figures from the foundation attended the scholarship award ceremony to show their support and encouragement to the recipients. Winnie Morganson, the General Counsel of the foundation, represented the President, Dr. Victor Briggs, who was unable to attend in person.

Also present were the Secretary of the foundation, Jackson Allen, and Richard Ogbonna, the Rivers State Liaison Officer. Their presence underscored the foundation’s personal investment in each student’s success.

Dr. Victor Briggs in his address, delivered through his representatives, encouraged the students to see the scholarships as both a gift and a responsibility, stating, “to whom much is given, much is expected.” He emphasized that the foundation believes in their potential to become future leaders, who, with diligence and integrity, can make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

University administrators and strategic partners also commended the Victor Tulutu Briggs Foundation for its generosity and support. They noted that this assistance would play a significant role in enabling these students to focus on their academic work without the distraction of financial stress.

According to a representative from the University’s administration, the foundation’s support exemplifies the role that private organizations can play in uplifting the education sector and promoting societal advancement.
