Rivers PDP asks court to disqualify Accord Party’s state assembly candidates

The Rivers State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, seeking the disqualification of Rivers State Assembly candidates of the Accord Party.

The Suit, is in addition to another suit filed by the party against the National Assembly candidates of the same Accord.

PDP alleged that the primaries of the Accord Party were violation of provisions of the Electoral Act.

The presiding Judge, Justice Asamu Tukari-Mohammed after listening to the legal representatives of all the parties adjourned the matter to 23rd September for hearing.

Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, the lawyer of Accord, Abdullahi Mohammed SAN and that of the sixteen National Assembly candidates of the party, Abiodun Owonikoko SAN, explained why they have asked the court to strike out the case.

The governorship candidate of Accord, Dumo Lulu-Briggs was present at the court in solidarity with his party members.

He expressed displeasure over the interest of the PDP in dragging all the candidates of the political party to court.
