Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is closing in on Galatasaray’s all-time record for goals by a foreign player after taking his tally to 68 goals in 83 appearances for the Turkish champions.
The Nigerian forward moved closer to the milestone after scoring twice in Galatasaray’s derby victory over Fenerbahçe at Rams Park on Monday night.
Osimhen now ranks third among Galatasaray’s highest-scoring foreign players, behind Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, who leads with 77 goals, and Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi, who scored 72 times for the Istanbul club.
The 27-year-old needs five more goals to draw level with Hagi and 10 to equal Icardi’s record. He would need 11 additional goals to surpass Icardi and become the club’s outright leading foreign goalscorer.
His tally of 68 goals in 83 appearances gives him an impressive average of 0.82 goals per match, underlining his scoring efficiency since joining Galatasaray.
Osimhen’s latest brace further strengthened his standing among the club’s most prolific foreign players and highlighted his continued importance to the team’s attack.
The Super Eagles forward will now look to maintain his scoring form as Galatasaray continue their campaign, with the prospect of making further club history within reach.
