Court remands Brazil drug importer in Port Harcourt prison

Brave Dickson

A suspect who specialises in illicit drug importation from Brazil to Nigeria has been remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre by a federal high court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The suspect, Odogwu Johnson was arraigned by the state National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on charges bordering on cocaine importation.

The suspect had been arrested before at the Lagos international airport over drug importation, arraigned before a federal high court in Lagos and was granted bail.

Same suspect jumped the bail, flew back to Brazil and imported higher kilograms of cocaine into Nigeria through the Port Harcourt international airport and was re-arrested.

Speaking with our correspondent shortly after the suspect’s arraignment on Friday, lawyer to NDLEA, Patrick Eshua said Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charge, adding that the court had adjourned the case till June 6.

“The kilograms of cocaine we recovered from the suspect were weightier than the cocaine he was arrested with at the Lagos international airport.

“This time, the suspect decided to import the drugs from Brazil to Nigeria through the Port Harcourt international airport after he had jumped bail in Lagos,” NDLEA lawyer said.
