Trigger-happy policeman kills man over alleged bribe in Delta

A police officer attached to the Agbor Police Division in Delta State has allegedly shot dead an iron excavator for reportedly refusing to pay a bribe of N1,000.

The victim identified only as Aminu was reportedly killed in the Ika South Local Government Area of State following a disagreement with the Police operative.

It was gathered that the officer had allegedly demanded a tip from the deceased, who said he had not made any sales for the day.

According to the Punch, when the policeman pressed further, the deceased agreed to pay N500 twice, which inflamed the cop who allegedly brought out his gun and threatened to shoot the victim.

“As the argument lasted, the policeman thought that Aminu did not want to pay the money, so he wanted to threaten him more. A gunshot followed and the man died on the spot.”

Meanwhile, members of the Arewa Progressive Forum, Ika chapter, had staged a peaceful protest at the Agbor Police Area Command, Agbor-Obi, to demand justice for the victim, while the state Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, when contacted said he was not aware of the incident.
