The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has lambasted the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Muhammad for blaming the insecurity in the country on the 1975 coup that sacked the regime of retired General Yakubu Gowon from power.
Lai Muhammad had in an interview on Channels Television maintained that the Gowon regime proposed free and compulsory education for all Nigerian children of school age.
But the proposal did not see the light of day because of the 1975 coup, adding that over 13 million children are out of school today.
The Minister said the growing population of children that are out of school has given terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups the opportunity to recruit more.
Not happy with the federal government’s leadership style of blaming predecessors, the Kalabari Clan Chairman of IYC in Rivers State, Ibinabo Omoni Jack described Lai Muhammad’s comments as childish.
Jack said, “it is unfortunate that Lai Muhammad and the APC led federal government have resorted to blaming past administrations on everything.
“This goes to show that this present administration is incompetent and I believe that the leadership pattern of the Buhari led federal government is responsible for the increase in insecurity in the country.”
The IYC Chairman also insisted that previous administrations had done better than the current administration especially in terms of security.
