The Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated six sub-committees to plan the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation on October 1.
Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe who performed the inauguration at Government House in Yenagoa on Wednesday July 29, 2026 said the state has many reasons to thank God for the progress recorded in the past three decades, particularly in development.
Dr. Akpe directed the sub-committees to submit proposals for activities and events within two weeks, in line with their terms of reference.
He stressed the need for strategic programmes that would make the anniversary significant and memorable.
The three-day celebration is scheduled to begin on September 29. It will be preceded by two weeks of commissioning of public infrastructure projects completed by the Prosperity Administration.
Events lined up include a cultural carnival, boat regatta, anniversary lecture, sporting competitions, a state banquet and an awards night.
The Awards Sub-Committee is chaired by His Majesty King Bubaraye Dakolo. The Sports Sub-Committee is headed by Hon. Daniel Igali, while Prof. Stephen Olali chairs the Lecture Sub-Committee.
The Mega Praise Sub-Committee is jointly led by Deputy Governor Akpe and Premium Trust Bank Managing Director Dr. Emmanuel Emiefenim. Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou-Obolo heads the Cultural Sub-Committee, and the Publicity Sub-Committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai.
