TYSON FURY’S trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder has been called off after the Bronze Bomber’s contractual right expired.
The door is now open for the Gypsy King, 32, to take on Anthony Joshua in an all-British heavyweight unification fight.
Fury was due to fight Wilder, 34, in the third and final fight of their trilogy on December 19 in Las Vegas.
But Wilder’s contractual right is set to expire, allowing Fury and Joshua, 30, to finally meet – with a Wembley 2021 date on the cards.
In March, AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed his star and Fury had agreed to a 50-50 purse split for their mega-money fight – while committing to two bouts.
And, now Wilder is out of the way, Joshua just needs to dispatch mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev on December 12 to tee-up the biggest fight in British boxing history.
Last week, Fury revealed he was sick and tired of waiting for Wilder and his team to agree to their third instalment.
SunSport understands the fight is now off for good.
And the Morecambe giant is now set for a homecoming UK bout in December to shake off the ring-rust accumulated since his sensational February win over the Bronze Bomber.
Frank Warren and BT Sport revealed last week that the mouthwatering heavyweight British title fight between undefeated aces Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce will take place on November 28 – with the fight NOT on PPV.
And that scheduling move frees December up for Fury to return to a UK ring for the first time since 2015.
In theory, Joshua could pay Pulev a step-aside fee to walk straight into the Fury clash.
But the 39-year-old veteran and his Top Rank team – who also guides Fury – fancy their chances of stunning AJ in the wake of his shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr last year.
At the start of October, Fury tried to goad Joshua into settling their differences in a Christmas cracker but the Watford man ignored his tirade.
The 6ft 9in icon said: “Tell AJ to grow a pair and step up to fight in December.
“If Wilder doesn’t happen then let’s get the AJ fight in December.
“If Wilder doesn’t happen in December then I will step in and smash Anthony Joshua into next week.
“Joshua is not man enough for me. Have you ever seen a knife go through butter before?
“I knock AJ out in three rounds. How would he get out the way of me? Is he fleet footed enough to get away from me?
“I would cut him down in two, it is not about tactics, it is about balls, guts and determination and I have those in abundance.
“Once this fight gets made I will show you what to do with a bodybuilder like that, you cut him in two.
“He jacked against Ruiz and he will do it again, once you have quit once you will quit again.”
Wembley is now favourite to host the all-British fight, should the stadium ban be lifted.
Coronavirus conditions permitting, the Middle East and China are also being touted as potential hosts for the heavyweight unification showdown.
