Corp members donate hand sanitizes, face masks to Rivers

The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has joined the race to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Rivers State.

The corps produced and donated sanitizers, face masks, and liquid soap, made by its members to the State Government.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, who received the gifts in Port Harcourt thanked the corp members for their magnanimity in supporting the government and for their ingenuity in producing the sanitizers, liquid soap and face masks.

“I thought that all Corp members had returned home. I am happy that some of you are still around to support the Government overcome the pandemic,” he said.

He said that the gifts would greatly assist the government in its preventive measures against COVID-19.

He urged the management of the NYSC and the general public to continue to abide by the approved safety measures from World Health Organisation (WHO) and the government to enable the country to overcome the pandemic quickly.

State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Chinwendu Chukwu said the preventive kits were produced by corps members under the SARD project.

He said the NYSC was determined to continue in its support to enable the country overcome the COVID-19 as quickly as possible.

He recalled that to stem the spread of the virus, the NYSC orientation camp was abruptly called off to support the efforts of the state government.

Also present at the presentation were the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Fred Kpakol and LGA Chairmen.
