Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles have completed their first week of camping as preparations continue for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
The U-23 national team opened camp on Sunday, November 29, 2025, at AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, with players and members of the technical crew arriving in batches.
The initial group comprised five players from Sporting Lagos, who were the first to report for national team duty.
Four more players arrived on the second day, alongside Ikorodu City assistant coach Bright, who joined the technical crew to support the team’s preparations.
Players from Rangers International were among those who arrived later because of their club’s continental commitments.
With more players reporting to camp, the Olympic Eagles began intensive training sessions on Tuesday, focusing on fitness, tactical organisation and team cohesion ahead of the qualifiers.
The team also played a friendly against Remo Stars last Saturday. The encounter ended in a goalless draw, giving the coaching crew an opportunity to assess the players and evaluate the squad’s progress.
Training resumed on Sunday as the technical crew continued working to improve the team’s readiness.
However, seven players were released from camp to rejoin their respective clubs because of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday commitments.
As of Monday, 23 players and 11 officials remained in camp, with preparations continuing towards assembling a competitive squad for the Olympic qualifying campaign.
Having completed the first week of activities, the Olympic Eagles will now seek to build on their progress, improve their understanding on the pitch and develop the cohesion required for the challenges ahead.
