Port Harcourt Residents To Protest, Demand End To Killings

Florence Uwaeme

Residents of Port Harcourt have called on President Muhammadu Buhari, governor Nyesom Wike and security agents to stop feigning ignorance over the consistent killing of innocent people in the state.

Recall that Rivers state has been under a siege of some sort by gunmen said to be cultists since April.

There is no passing day in in the state that there will not be news of killings.

It has also been recorded that since April 2019, more than one hundred and fifty-two (152) persons have lost their lives in Rivers state.

To this effect, the good people of Port Harcourt have decided to embark on a protest on the 18th day of July 2019, to communicate their dissatisfaction over the happenings in the state.

The protest organized by the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, RIVSCO, will start by 10:00 am and the meeting point is Isaac Boro Park.

Black is to be worn for the protest as it would serve as a reflection of how the residents of Port Harcourt feel.

July must have been the month of protest in Rivers state as there have been several groups embarking on it lately, the latest being that of teachers yesterday.
