Women’s protests rock Port Harcourt

Protests for and against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and Nigerian Army rocked Port Harcourt on Thursday, causing heavy traffic gridlock in the city.

Women under different aegis staged protests against and for INEC and the Army sparking fears of a possible clash between the groups.

One, a pro-Wike and PDP group called on INEC to release the gubernatorial results of the March 9 suspended gubernatorial and state house of assembly election.

They brandished different placards with different inscriptions, demanding the speedy release of the results.

INEC on Wednesday said that the process will start on Saturday, March 30 with a stakeholders’ meeting.

They also chided the army for killing innocent Rivers people while casting aspersions on the minister of transportation, Chibuike Amaechi.

However, a Pro-APC/AAC group demanded the immediate redeployment of INEC’s REC in the state, Obo Effanga.

They also praised the army for its neutrality while urging the commission to cancel the guber election entirely.

Theportcitynews gathered that the protesters barricaded office of the commission at Aba road although they were met by police presence.

The series of protests comes days after other protests against and for INEC and the army were staged by different groups in the town.

The gubernatorial result collation process will start on April 2nd.
