Breaking: Court issues bench warrant on Chidi Lloyd, orders his detention

A High court in Rivers state has issued a bench warrant on the former leader of Rivers State house of assembly, Chidi Lloyd, to compel him to appear in court to take his plea over the criminal charges brought against him by the state government.

The court also ordered the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Ahmed Zaki, to arrest Chidi Lloyd and put him in Port Harcourt prisons and bring him to court on the next adjourned date.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Chiwendu Wogu, said the bench warrant was issued due to the absence of Chidi Lloyd in court.

The judge said that the act was an insult and contempt of court.

Chidi Lloyd was supposed to be in court to take a plea on his alleged murder charges filed by the Rivers State Government.

Mr Lloyd who is also the Director-General of Tonye Cole gubernatorial campaign organization is standing trial for the attempted murder of Michael Chinda using the mace at the floor of Rivers State House of Assembly in 2013.

Rivers State government had on Wednesday, filed fresh charges for Murder and attempted murder charges against the chieftain of the All Progressive Congress.

Our correspondent reports that the court adjourned the case till January 10, 2019 for the plea.
