The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) is widening its private-sector participation model for building standard waste receptacles across Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas. Managing Director Dr Ibimina Wokoma invited residents, corporate bodies, and institutions to back the agency’s push to end dumping of refuse on road medians.

RIWAMA currently runs 71 refuse collection zones daily, with over 400 receptacles across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor. The agency says population growth and increased human activity mean the number of waste collection points must be raised.

Partners on board so far are Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, real estate entrepreneur My-ACE China (described as “Mayor of Housing”), and the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, Abuloma. The agency asked, “Who is next?”
RIWAMA said that building standard waste collection centres at strategic locations will stop dumping on road medians, and that it will enforce full compliance.
