Rivers state government has concluded its strategic development workshop for work plan and start-up meeting for family planning.
Declaring the week-long workshop open, Special Adviser to the governor on primary health care, Dr Opuda George stated that the work plan meeting is important as the output will be the roadmap for family planning implementation for 2018 – 2019 in the state.
Dr Opuda stressed that the current uptake of family planning services is not encouraging while calling on participants to take the work plan serious for the increase in uptake of family planning services across the state.
The special adviser reiterates that no woman is worth dying while given birth to a child, adding that health workers should provide adequate information to Rivers citizens on how to make proper decision on family planning.
On her part, State Program Manager of The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Uduak Ananaba, said they are ready to partner with the Rivers state government to eliminate duplication of efforts in particular areas.
She also added that the goal is to increase the uptake of family planning services in the state, plan family size, child spacing and eliminate death due to child birth related issues.
