The Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University (RSU), Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, has inaugurated a 28-member Road and Environmental Safety Committee to promote road safety, ensure compliance with traffic rules, and strengthen environmental sustainability on campus. The inauguration took place on Friday, October 16, 2026, in the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room. The committee draws its members from various facilities and units of the university.
Zeb-Obipi charged members to carry out their duties diligently and keep the university’s roads and surroundings safe and conducive to academic and administrative activities. He said the committee would oversee road safety matters, review cases of reckless driving, and recommend appropriate action to the relevant authorities.
He stressed strict compliance with traffic regulations and responsible conduct by motorists and other road users on campus. He also directed it to run regular awareness campaigns on the dangers of reckless driving, speeding, improper parking, and other violations.
On the environment, the committee is to monitor awareness initiatives, promote responsible waste management, and encourage practices for a clean, healthy, and sustainable campus, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among staff, students, and others.
