President Bola Tinubu has called on the City Boy Movement (CBM) to step up its mobilisation of young Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the election should be seen as a decision about the future of the country’s youth rather than the ambition of any individual candidate.
Tinubu made the call on Monday while receiving the movement’s national leadership at the State House in Abuja.
According to the President, the priority should be securing Nigeria’s future, not merely winning an election for a particular candidate.
“Nigeria must win this election before any candidate does,” he said.
“You are not campaigning for me. You are campaigning for your own future.”
Tinubu expressed optimism about the country’s economic prospects, assuring the group that his vision was to build a nation where young people could have renewed hope and confidence in the future.
“The economy is growing steadily. You will have a future, a future to believe in,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that the country would continue to make progress despite its challenges, insisting that Nigeria would not be taken backwards.
“There’s nothing that will push us back,” the President said, adding that the commitment shown by the group had renewed his own hope.
The City Boy Movement is a youth-oriented political advocacy group that supports Tinubu’s administration and his bid for re-election in 2027.
Earlier, the group’s Director-General, Francis Shoga, reaffirmed its target of mobilising 10 million Nigerians to support the President’s re-election campaign.
Shoga disclosed that the movement had so far registered 4.6 million members in its national database and reached more than 50,000 young Nigerians through its Renewed Hope Youth Tour across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Speaking on the theme, “Youth, Unity, Action: Building a Stronger and More Prosperous Nigeria,” he said the organisation would build on its expanding membership and grassroots network to generate electoral support for Tinubu in 2027.
He also praised the President for his reforms and economic policies, expressing the group’s continued support for his administration.
The meeting was attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, senior government officials, ministers, youth organisations and prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), among others.
