The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have dismissed reports suggesting that Golden Eaglets coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has been appointed assistant coach of Nigeria’s U-23 men’s national team, the Olympic Eagles.
Uwejamomere, who led the Golden Eaglets at the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Boys Tournament in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, has not been included in the Olympic Eagles’ technical crew, according to officials of both organisations.
A senior NSC official and an NFF official separately denied the reports, insisting that no appointment had been made.
“There is no truth in that report,” the NSC official said, adding that Uwejamomere continued to contribute to Nigerian football in other technical roles.
The official noted that Uwejamomere had worked as a video analyst with the Super Eagles for four years and had also served in that capacity with the Super Falcons at the last Olympic Games.
An NFF official also rejected the speculation, saying no proposal had been made to add the Golden Eaglets coach to the U-23 technical crew.
“As far as we are concerned, nobody has proposed or appointed the Golden Eaglets coach to the U-23 Eagles team. We have a complete backroom staff ahead of the team’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign,” the official said.
The clarification comes as Nigeria prepare for their two-legged qualifying tie against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the race for a place at the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which serves as the qualifying tournament for men’s football at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Nigeria are scheduled to face DR Congo away in the first leg on November 9, 2026, before hosting the return fixture on November 17.
The Olympic Eagles will aim to secure a positive aggregate result across the two matches to advance their qualification campaign and keep their hopes of reaching the 2028 Olympics alive.
