Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the third round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers after thrashing Comoros 5-0 in the second leg of their second-round tie in Ikenne on Tuesday.
The 10-time African champions secured a 7-0 aggregate victory, having won the first leg 2-0.
Nigeria suffered an early setback when captain Rasheedat Ajibade was forced off in the 23rd minute following a collision with a Comoros defender. China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi came on as her replacement.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Uchenna Kanu capitalised on a goalkeeping error before setting up Toni Payne, who calmly finished to give Nigeria the lead.
Kanu extended the advantage shortly after the restart, putting the Super Falcons firmly in control of the encounter.
Payne completed her brace in the 61st minute, converting a chance created by substitute Blessing Okpe to make it 3-0.
Five minutes later, Kanu also claimed her second goal of the match with a well-taken header as Nigeria increased their lead to four.
Al-Hilal midfielder Christy Ucheibe completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to seal an emphatic victory for the hosts.
The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to the third qualifying round, scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027. Nigeria are set to face either Morocco or the Democratic Republic of Congo as they continue their bid to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.
