The Nigerian Golden Eaglets have reportedly suffered their second consecutive defeat at the four-nation invitational tournament in China after falling 4-2 to Australia in an entertaining encounter in the early hours of Wednesday
According to the report, it is stated that the Golden Eaglets are trying to rebuild their team under coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere, since they missed out on two tournaments, the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Nevertheless, history has it that the Nigerian under 17 squad have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup for five times, but now they are at the bottom of the standings. They conceded a total of seven goals, Scoring just four goals in their first two games.
Uwejamomere’s side opened their campaign first game against Tanzania, which saw them lost 3-2. With much hope of bouncing back against Australia — unfortunately, they made the same mistakes on defense and the Australians capitalised on several opportunities to secure a deserved victory.
It now means that the Eaglet have let in seven goals in two games and this actually reflects as a problem for a team that is known for scoring goals and having a youth system.
Despite of the difficult start, analysis shows that the Golden Eaglets can still end the tournament on a good note as they will lock horn against China on Saturday. This game will give the players a chance to play against a good team and gain experience.
The tournament is helping the Golden Eaglets get ready, for the WAFU B U-17 Championship. This championship will decide which teams go to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations year that is scheduled to take place in September.
