Manchester United have decided to give head coach Michael Carrick more time to improve the team’s results following discussions among the club’s senior hierarchy.
The decision came after a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday intensified pressure on Carrick, with United sitting 16th in the Premier League and having gone eight matches without a win in all competitions.
According to reports, club officials held talks on Monday about Carrick’s future before deciding against an immediate change. The discussions reportedly involved co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.
Carrick’s position had come under serious scrutiny following the Bournemouth loss and a difficult run of results. However, he is expected to remain in charge for United’s Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
The former United midfielder will now look to steady the team and deliver an improved performance as the club attempts to halt its winless run.
