The Federal Government has called on civil servants in the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to embrace innovation, digital transformation, teamwork and continuous learning in order to improve public service delivery.
In a statement released on Monday by Suleiman Haruna, Director, Public Relations and Protocol of the ministry, the call was made during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Civil Service Week held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The opening ceremony featured presentations on the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2021–2025), covering capability building, digitalisation, performance management and innovation.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Binyerem C. Ukaire, said the civil service must adapt to modern governance demands through stronger institutional capacity and greater use of digital tools.
She noted that innovation and digital transformation have become central to building a more efficient, responsive and citizen-focused public service.
Ukaire said the theme of the 2026 Civil Service Week, “Transforming Public Institutions Through Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion,” aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at improving governance and service delivery.
She described the Civil Service Week as an annual platform for recognising workers’ contributions and strengthening commitment to national development.
The Permanent Secretary urged staff to uphold professionalism, integrity, accountability and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
She also emphasised the need for continuous learning, saying modern public service delivery now depends heavily on digital skills and adaptability.
The ceremony ended with renewed emphasis on strengthening reforms aimed at improving efficiency, accountability and the adoption of technology across the civil service.
