Chief (Comrade) Mulade Sheriff, PhD, of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 2026 Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup, unveiling a ₦50 million grassroots sports activities and peacebuilding initiative aimed at promoting solidarity across Delta State, peaceful coexistence and child empowerment.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Chief Mulade defined Delta State as a strategic forum designed to foster lasting peace, cultural integration and healthy opposition among the seven major ethnic nationalities.

The initiative, organized through CEPEJ in collaboration with the African For Peace Sports Academy, will communicate mutual knowledge, friendship and peaceful coexistence to the youth of Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, Aniocha/Oshimili, Ika, Ndokwa and Urhobo ethnic corporations through football.
According to him, the program would serve as a platform to break down ethnic boundaries, build trust and inspire cooperation between groups, adding that peaceful coexistence remained essential for sustainable reforms in Delta State.
He said the initiative could additionally engage the youth, nurture leadership qualities, recognize football potential, and redirect the youth towards effective enterprises capable of contributing to the general growth of the society.
