The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr. Gift Worlu, has ordered the immediate dissolution of every transport-related task force, traffic decongestion committee, and monitoring team operating in the area.
The directive, which covers units set up by the council itself as well as those formed by transport unions, seeks to end the activities of Vehicle Inspection Officers and other transport-related groups that had been working under the local government’s authority.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Goodluck Nsirim, on Monday, August 10, 2026, Dr. Worlu said the move is part of efforts to reorganise the transport sector and create a more professional, orderly and efficient system for traffic management and daily ticket enforcement.
According to the statement, the council acknowledged reports of harassment, intimidation and other misconduct by some task-force members and pledged to address them.

Working with security agencies, transport unions and other stakeholders, it said it would quickly put a better-coordinated system in place that promotes accountability and respects residents’ rights.
In a stern warning, the chairman warned all unauthorised persons popularly known as “Agbero” who parade themselves as task-force officials at major junctions to leave the local government area at once, as their presence will no longer be tolerated.
The statement urged Residents, motorists and commuters to go about their lawful activities without fear as the council, in partnership with security agencies, will continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property and the maintenance of peace.
