The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjusted the threshold used to configure its accreditation system following the mock accreditation exercise conducted ahead of the August 15 election in Osun State.
The Director of ICT at INEC, Dr. Lawrence Bayode, who made this known while speaking on a live Television Show, explained that the commission conducted the exercise to ascertain the functionality and performance of the system.
According to Bayode, the commission detected a high similarity score between the threshold used to configure the system for the mock exercise and the threshold required for accreditation on election day.
He said the exercise was designed to identify and correct possible challenges before the actual election.
“What we currently do is to take that data that we gathered on the first of August in the exercise, what we currently do is to take that data to ensure that we have the accurate threshold and then push to the system for the exercise to continue.”
Bayode said the issue was identified when the accreditation system was deployed for the mock exercise, adding that the commission was working to ensure that the appropriate threshold was used for the election.
He also addressed concerns over the operating system of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), saying the commission was already working with the existing system which is Android version 10 and that security measures were being considered.
He explained that upgrading the system to a higher version would require the upgrading of other components, noting that the security of the system remained important.
Bayode said the mock accreditation exercise was part of efforts to ensure the readiness, functionality and performance of the system ahead of the Osun governorship election.
