Lagos-based youth football expert Moses Odubela has identified potential weaknesses in Brazil’s defence ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final clash against Nigeria at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Odubela, popularly known as Mozaino1, believes the Flamingos have a realistic chance of defeating the South Americans and reaching the final for the first time in the competition’s history.
However, he cautioned head coach Akeem Busari and his players against underestimating Brazil, noting that any team reaching the semi-finals of a global tournament deserves respect.
The coach and schoolteacher also criticised Nigerian football administrators for what he described as inadequate support for grassroots coaches responsible for developing young talents.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Odubela expressed concern about the lack of recognition for grassroots coaches and the sacrifices they make to nurture players.
“It is quite disheartening that the kind of leaders we have hardly give grassroots coaches the attention and support they deserve. They only show up to celebrate victories without recognising the hard work, sacrifices and dedication that go into achieving those successes,” he said.
On the semi-final, Odubela acknowledged Brazil’s quality, pointing to their 2-1 comeback victory over China as evidence of their ability to respond under pressure.
“Brazil are a formidable opponent and their 2-1 comeback victory over China demonstrates their quality,” he said.
He, however, believes Nigeria can reach the final if the team maintains tactical discipline, defensive concentration and confidence.
Odubela advised the Flamingos to exploit spaces behind Brazil’s defensive line, which he believes has shown signs of vulnerability.
“My advice to the coach and his technical crew is to approach the game with tactical discipline and maintain defensive concentration.
“The girls should look to exploit the spaces behind the Brazilian defence, as their backline has shown some vulnerabilities. Most importantly, the coach should encourage the players to express themselves confidently on the pitch and play without fear. Aluta continua, victoria acerta!” he added.
The Flamingos will face Brazil in the semi-final, with a place in the final at stake as Nigeria pursue their first title in the competition.
