President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore Joseph Tegbe into office as the Minister of Power and Sola Enikanolaiye into office as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The ceremony took place in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Both wives of the two appointed ministers were also present alongside a few other government officials.
This move emanated from the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who used to be the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Adebayo Adelabu, who used to be the Minister of Power
They quit their ministerial positions to vie for political offices.
Tinubu then proceeded to submit the names of the newly appointed ministers to the National Assembly, which gave the go-ahead for the appointments on Wednesday May 6, 2026.
As one of the recently appointed ministers in Nigeria, the Minister of Power holds over three decades of experience in several sectors. He is a native of Ibadan, Nigeria, Oyo State, renowned for his expertise as a strategic reformer of economics and institutions.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Administration in Switzerland and another Master’s degree in Public Administration from Birmingham.
Before becoming a minister, Tegbe held the position of Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG, Africa.
During his tenure at the company, he oversaw presidential reforms, developed strategic plans for subnational governments, and restructured fiscal policies in multiple tiers of government.
Among his many achievements in his professional career, there are several advisory roles for such prestigious companies as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Shell, General Electric, and Huawei.
Enikanolaiye, who comes from Igbagun in Kogi State, becomes part of the political elite in charge of the foreign affairs ministry having vast experience in diplomacy. Enikanolaiye obtained first-class degrees in Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while winning the Dean’s Prize. He also holds a master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with Distinction from the University of Lagos.
In his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Enikanolaiye joined in August 1982 and eventually became a Director before becoming the Permanent Secretary at the ministry in 2016 until his retirement in August 2017 after 35 years of dedicated public service.
As a career diplomat, Enikanolaiye served in several foreign missions of Nigeria such as those at Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, and London, serving as the country’s Head of Mission at New Delhi in India as his last overseas mission.
He is decorated with several awards such as Presidential Civil Service Merit Award, among others, and Distinguished Fellow, National Defence College.
Prior to his appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, he was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations at the Office of the Chief of Staff.
