Rivers State is set to host the 2026 President’s Inter-Senior Secondary Schools Debate Championship from Tuesday, August 18 to Thursday, August 20.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the three-day event.
He said secondary school students from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory will participate in the competition.
Nwagor explained that the opening ceremony will take place at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumueme, while the grand finale will be held at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre on Thursday.

The Commissioner said the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, will be the Chief Host.
He also announced that Governor Fubara will receive an Award of Excellence during the grand finale for his performance as the best-performing governor in the South-South geopolitical zone.
The championship is expected to bring together students from across the country to showcase their debating skills and knowledge on topical issues.
