The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised emerging opposition coalitions and political parties, including the No Messiah Coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying they are driven by selfish interests.
Wike made the remarks on Sunday during a media parley in Abuja, where he spoke on recent political developments and the activities of opposition groups ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said many of the actors who had previously accused existing parties of imposition and lack of internal democracy were now struggling with similar challenges after forming new platforms.
According to him, the NDC, despite its size, has been unable to conduct its internal party processes without protests.
He also criticised the ADC, which he said had positioned itself as a coalition formed to “rescue democracy,” but was already facing internal disagreements.
Wike said the party’s presidential primary produced three aspirants, adding that two of them later disassociated themselves from the conduct of the exercise.
He argued that such developments exposed contradictions within the opposition coalitions and questioned their credibility.
The FCT Minister dismissed the idea of what he described as a “messiah coalition,” insisting that the groups were not driven by national interest.
He maintained that internal crises within the parties reflected a pattern of inconsistency among those who had previously criticised established political parties.
Wike said credible political alternatives must be built on internal discipline and transparent processes, adding that the groups he referenced had failed to demonstrate this.
The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and coalition-building efforts across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
