In an attempt to give youths the necessary skills required in the oil and gas industry, Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Programme (HYPREP) has started a six months’ professional mud logging training programme for 300 Ogoni youths.
In his remarks at the orientation ceremony held in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, HYPREP Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey stated that the beneficiaries had been chosen through an open and merit-based selection process.

He explained that the exercise recorded more than 17,000 applicants with over 10,000 applicants having their data verified and appearing in the Computer Based Test (CBT) test before final selection of 300 trainees.
Zabbey encouraged the beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously since the training will equip them with technical skills that might boost their employability locally and internationally.
He added that the six-month program would concentrate more on practical training through field practices and cautioned the trainees that absence in class may jeopardize their eligibility for assistance by HYPREP.
Josephine Nzidee, the Head of Livelihood and Sustainable Development, told the trainees not to spread rumors but to depend only on information from HYPREP.
She further stated that the participants will be required to sign commitment forms and successfully pass assessments in order to get their certificates.
Prof. Godwin Igile, the head trainer, stated that through the training, the participants would be made familiar with current methods of mud logging, drilling, engineering interpretation, and other industry-specific skills.
He advised the trainees to make use of the opportunity as it was a gateway into a career in the oil and gas industry.
