Nollywood actress Adebimpe Oyebade, popularly known as Mo Bimpe, has opened up about a painful chapter of her life when she was deliberately excluded from social gatherings because she did not have children.
The actress, who is married to fellow actor Lateef Adedimeji, shared the experience in an emotional Instagram post after attending the birthday celebration of baby Rakeem, the child of social media personality Priscilla Ojo and Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, in Lagos.
Mo Bimpe said the celebration brought back memories of a difficult period when some friends and acquaintances deliberately excluded her from events involving children, including baby showers, naming ceremonies and birthday parties.
According to her, returning home after the celebration left her emotional, not because of the event itself, but because it reminded her of the struggles she experienced before becoming a mother.
“There was a time when I wasn’t invited to baby showers, naming ceremonies, children’s birthdays, or anything related to kids,” she wrote.
The actress said she initially assumed the exclusions were accidental but later discovered that some people intentionally left her out because she did not have a child at the time.
Mo Bimpe explained that the experience was particularly painful because she loved children and wanted to celebrate important moments with her friends and loved ones.
“At the time, it hurt deeply. Not because I wanted pity, but because I loved children. I wanted to celebrate with people. I wanted to share in their joy,” she stated.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by women struggling to conceive, the actress said the experience often comes with anxiety, societal pressure, intrusive questions, and silent emotional battles.
“What many people don’t realize is that struggling to conceive is already hard enough. The waiting is hard. The questions are hard. The insults are hard. The silent prayers are hard,” she said.
She urged people to show greater compassion towards women experiencing fertility challenges, stressing that a woman’s worth should not be determined by whether she has children.
“A woman without a child is not less deserving of love, friendship, inclusion, or celebration,” she added.
Mo Bimpe, now a mother of triplets, reflected on how dramatically her circumstances had changed and said her journey had strengthened her faith.
“There was a time I had no child. Today, I am a mother of triplets,” she wrote.
Encouraging women who are still waiting to conceive, the actress urged them not to lose hope despite the emotional and social pressures that may accompany the journey.
“If there is one thing my life has taught me, it is that God can change a story faster than anyone expects. What feels delayed is not denied,” she said.
Mo Bimpe concluded by offering prayers and encouragement to women trusting God for children, assuring them that their stories can still change.
