FG Launches Laptop Credit Scheme to Expand Digital Access

The Federal Government has launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D) Programme to provide Nigerians with affordable access to laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools through structured consumer credit.

The initiative, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, is aimed at expanding digital inclusion and increasing access to technology across the country.

The programme, launched in collaboration with the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, will provide eligible Nigerians with financing options to acquire locally assembled laptops and other essential digital devices needed for learning, work and skills development.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said access to affordable credit is important for economic growth, entrepreneurship and digital transformation.

Tijani said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy by enabling more Nigerians to acquire productive assets and participate actively in the digital economy.

He added that the programme would help reduce the digital divide by combining technology access with innovative financing models that allow citizens to obtain tools required for digital skills development and economic opportunities.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, said the corporation would provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible 3MTT fellows across the country as part of the first phase of the programme.

Nwagba explained that 77 beneficiaries received their devices during the Abuja launch, while the remaining laptops would be distributed to qualified fellows in other states. He said the initiative would support local manufacturing while creating opportunities for young Nigerians to access digital training, remote work and technology-driven jobs.

The Federal Government said the C.L.I.C.K.D Programme is part of broader efforts to improve access to digital tools, support local technology production and enable more Nigerians to participate in the digital economy.
