The Nigeria Football Federation NFF wants to strengthen ties with the Chinese Football Association. This comes after a high-level meeting between NFF leaders and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria His Excellency Yu Dunhai, in Abuja.
NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau said football is a way to bring nations together. He wants to work with Chinese football especially with the women’s team since China is one of the best in the world.
The NFF has been offered a chance for their U17 girls to play in a mini-tournament in China in July. They think this is a start to a strong partnership with Chinese football. The NFF wants to play games with Chinese teams both in China and Nigeria. They will always keep the Chinese Embassy updated and ask for their advice.
Ambassador Yu Dunhai praised Gusau for being interested in football. He said both countries already work together in areas. Football brings people together the youth, who are the future. Many Nigerian players and coaches play in the Chinese League.
Ambassador Yu Dunhai also said he first learned about Nigeria through football, when Nigeria won gold in Atlanta in 1996. He was happy to see that Nigeria and China share the Independence Day, October 1.
The meeting also had NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, NFF Director of Media & Communications Dr Ademola Olajire, Chinese Embassy First Secretary Ni Zhichen and NFF Director of Protocol Barnabas Joro, in attendance.
