Russell has enjoyed an outstanding 2026 season, highlighted by her world-record 12.09-second run in Zurich last month, when she surpassed Amusan’s previous mark. Amusan responded strongly in the same race, clocking 12.23 seconds, the second-fastest time in the world at the time.
The silver medal adds another major global honour to Amusan’s decorated career and gives Nigeria another podium finish on the international athletics stage.
