Dangote Refinery Expansion to Create 95,000 Jobs

President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that the ongoing expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will significantly boost job creation, with about 95,000 skilled workers expected at the peak of construction.

Dangote made this known in Lagos on Saturday during his induction as an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, describing the project as a landmark development in Nigeria’s industrial journey.

He explained that the expansion reflects the group’s commitment to engineering excellence, large-scale employment, and long-term economic growth.

At present, the refinery operates at 650,000 barrels per day, but the planned upgrade will increase capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day. Once completed, it is expected to surpass India’s Jamnagar refinery and become the largest in the world.

According to Dangote, the project will rely heavily on Nigerian engineers, technicians, and artisans, ensuring broad local participation and skills development. He added that it will strengthen industrial capacity not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

The expansion is also expected to boost local manufacturing, encourage technology transfer, and deepen the country’s oil and gas value chain. It will further enhance fuel availability, reduce import dependence, and save foreign exchange for the economy.

Dangote noted that the project reflects confidence in Nigeria’s technical capacity and Africa’s ability to deliver world-class infrastructure.

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering President, Prof. Rahamon Bello, praised the recognition, saying Dangote’s work continues to inspire innovation and ambition among young engineers and entrepreneurs across the continent.
