Bayelsa Govt Pledges Fiscal Discipline

The Bayelsa state government has restated its commitment to prudent spending of state funds for the benefit of Bayelsans.

The state Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai stated this during the statutory monthly transparency briefing for the months of January, February and March 2026 at the Treasury House in Yenagoa on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The commissioner said every public resources spent by the Senator Douye Diri led administration is being accounted for through the monthly financial briefing and it will remain so through out the life of the tenure.

She emphasized that the people oriented products dotting the length and breath of the state are evidence of discreet management of public funds.

Obiyai recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently commissioned four high profile projects in the state including the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the 60-megawatt gas turbine, the Sagbama-Ekeremor Road and the New Yenagoa City Road before the Oxbow Lake-Agbura Road as well as the Oporoma Referral Hospital commissioned by the former President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Monday.

She highlighted some ongoing capital intensive projects to include the FIFA standard 30,000 capacity stadium at Igbogene and the 9-storey state Secretariat complex among several others across the three senatorial districts.

The commissioner restated the governor Diri led prosperity government to complete all ongoing projects before the expiration of the administration in 2028, stressing that none of the projects will be abandoned.

On the gas powered independent electricity project which is yet to generate power after its inauguration by the president, she noted that the government is not unaware of the expectations of Bayelsans but clarified that the power plant can only come on stream when all necessary mechanical and electrical installations have been completed, assuring that the turbine will soon become functional.

Giving a bit-by-bit account of public spendings for the past three months, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Treasury Matters, Mr. Timipre Seipulo hinted that after recurrent and capital expenditures during the months under review, the state has a closing balance of N56.8 billion in its coffers.
