Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho made history in Turkey after scoring twice and providing an assist in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Muğlaspor on Thursday.
The Nigerian international extended his scoring streak to 10 consecutive league matches, surpassing the previous Turkish professional football record.
Iheanacho was instrumental in Bursaspor’s victory at Muğla Atatürk Stadium, scoring twice before setting up the third goal as his side secured a convincing win.
The 30-year-old opened the scoring in the 58th minute after being set up by Halil Akbunar. He doubled Bursaspor’s advantage in the 73rd minute before Hüseyin Maldar completed the scoring in the 83rd minute, converting an assist from the Nigerian forward.
The result extended Iheanacho’s remarkable run and took his tally to 14 goals and three assists in 10 league appearances this season.
His achievement reportedly surpassed the previous nine-game scoring streaks associated with Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı.
Iheanacho had also set a new Bursaspor club record by scoring in nine consecutive league matches before the encounter with Muğlaspor, moving beyond the previous mark held by Brazilian forward Fernandão.
The former Manchester City, Leicester City and Celtic forward joined Bursaspor in July 2026 after leaving the Scottish club, and he has quickly become a key figure in the Turkish side’s attack.
His impressive club form could also strengthen his case for further involvement with Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the team prepares for upcoming international assignments.
With 14 goals and three assists in 10 league appearances, Iheanacho will look to maintain his scoring form as Bursaspor continue their campaign.
