Port Harcourt Celebrity Calls Out Men On Gender Bias

Nigerian reality TV star and Port Harcourt native, Tacha — born Anita Natacha Akide and raised in the bustling city of Port Harcourt in Rivers State — has sparked conversation after claiming that most industries are structured to favor men over women.

The former BBNaija star, who hails from the Ijaw (Kalabari) ethnic group, shared her thoughts on X, arguing that men often empower their fellow men more than women, challenging the popular notion of “na man dey do man.”

“That’s not opinion, that’s structure. Men fund men far more than they fund women, and even women often prefer doing business with men over other women,” Tacha wrote. She added that if she were a man with her influence, ideas, work ethic, and drive, she believes she would be much further in her career—not through shortcuts, but simply due to access.

Tacha also highlighted challenges women face in professional settings. She noted that business conversations with men often end in deals, while interactions with women frequently come with conditions, or even shift from business to personal matters. “With men, deals often end in handshakes. With women, deals often come with conditions. Somehow the conversation shifts from business to ‘let’s go on a date,’” she said.

The reality star encouraged women to persevere despite systemic barriers. “Women succeed despite the system, not because of it. That’s why I always tell women: work like crazy. Over-prepare. Over-deliver. Don’t rely on goodwill,” Tacha concluded.
