FG Moves to Final Stage of Port Harcourt Airport Concession as Keyamo Raises Revenue Concerns

The Federal Government has advanced the concession process for the Port Harcourt International Airport to its final stage, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced.

Keyamo revealed this on Monday during an X (formerly Twitter) Space discussion hosted by the National Orientation Agency (NOA). He explained that the move forms part of the government’s broader strategy to reposition the aviation sector for greater efficiency and financial sustainability.

Recall that on 6 November, 2025, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, revealed that eight major aviation projects including Port Harcourt International Airport will witness the improvement of security, system modernization and attract private investment across Nigeria.

According to the minister, while major airports in Lagos, Abuja and Kano continue to generate substantial revenue, many other airports across the country are still operating at a loss.

He said the concession model is expected to address these gaps by bringing in private-sector efficiency, improving service delivery, and reducing the financial burden on government.

Keyamo noted that finalising the concession of Port Harcourt International Airport represents a significant step in the government’s ongoing reforms aimed at modernising Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and ensuring long-term viability.
