Former RSG SSG Laid to Rest, Government Reacts

Former Rivers State Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Ebenezer Isokariari has been laid to rest, the government announced in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Saturday.

Isokariari, who was also a former gubernatorial candidate under the All Peoples Party, APP, in the 1999 elections died at 70 years old. The politician, whose friends and associates were known as “Gbasa”, died in Lagos State.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Benibo Anabraba, at the burial, commiserated with the Isokariari’s family and the Kalabari Kingdom.

The burial ceremony, had in attendance dignitaries across all walks of life was held in Buguma.

Anabraba was received by the Chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Council, Dr Onengiyeofori George, who had earlier conveyed the support and participation of the SSG to the family of the deceased.

During his lifetime, he served as Managing Director of NAFCON, serving at various levels of government. Another position he held was being a private secretary to a one-time Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Eze Frank Eke, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, and Secretary to the Rivers State Government.

He, however, didn’t complete his tenure as SSG as he resigned to contest the gubernatorial election against Dr Peter Odili of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999. Odili, however, won the election.

After the election, he moved to Cameroon where he served as a Bishop under the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star for years before returning to Nigeria to serve in Lagos.
