The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has commended Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of health workers and his decisive steps towards strengthening universal health coverage in the state.
RIVCHPP’s commendation was contained in a statement issued by its Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Vetty Rolegherighan Agala, in reaction to the recent meeting between the governor and the leadership of the Association of Resident Doctors, Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
During the meeting, Governor Fubara approved the immediate implementation of skipping and accoutrement allowances for 2023, 2024, and 2025, as well as the payment of residency grants for medical doctors in state service.

He also pledged to employ more health workers, enhance healthcare delivery, and extend health insurance coverage to all health personnel in the state.
Dr Agala noted that despite the challenges confronting governance, the governor has remained steadfast in improving the health of Rivers residents. She prayed for his continued success, expressing optimism that his policies would significantly advance the state’s journey towards universal health coverage.
She further stressed that these strategic interventions would motivate health workers and enhance service delivery, which are crucial elements of achieving universal health coverage.
Dr Agala also congratulated the Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, for her proactive leadership and dedication to ensuring that all health facilities in the state remain functional and well-equipped.
Reaffirming RIVCHPP’s commitment to the #Health4All initiative, Dr Agala pledged the agency’s continued efforts to provide financial risk protection and accessible healthcare for all Rivers residents, especially vulnerable groups.
