FCT Minister Nyesom Wike hailed President Bola Tinubu’s tolerance of criticism on Thursday, calling Nigerians fortunate to have such a leader, while addressing a road project launch in Abuja amid ongoing disputes.
Speaking at the Arterial Road N1 flag-off in Wuye on Sept. 18, 2025, Wike praised Tinubu’s patience, noting that only in Nigeria could someone like activist Omoyele Sowore openly call the president a “criminal” without repercussions.
Sowore, a former AAC presidential candidate, had tweeted on Sept. 17, 2025, mocking Tinubu’s claim during a Brazil visit that corruption was eradicated, calling it a “shameless lie.” Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, countered on the same day with a video of the event, jabbing at Sowore’s absence and his “Sahara Desert Medical Centre” moniker.
Wike also tackled the indefinite strike by FCT resident doctors. He revealed that the 2025 budget, approved in July 2025, allocates N25 billion for health projects. While acknowledging demands for allowances and doctor hires, he stressed due process.
“We just appointed an acting Head of Service after the former one’s passing,” he said on Sept. 18, directing officials to assess owed amounts and proceed with employment under a Civil Service Commission waiver.

Responding to threats of protests over health funding, Wike stood firm. “The SSS informed me of planned demonstrations, claiming we prioritize roads over health,” he said. “Demonstrations are fine, but no one will blackmail me from doing what’s right.” He urged patience, citing the recent budget approval, and advised asking questions before protesting.
Additionally, Wike warned against politicizing the FCT Civil Service. “Join a political party if you wish, but don’t drag the Civil Service into politics,” he cautioned on Sept. 18.
It bears mentioning that Wike’s remarks highlight his support for Tinubu while addressing health and governance challenges, urging dialogue over disruption as of Friday morning.
