‎Students Will Be Rendered Useless Relying on AI – Dotun Adeoye

‎‎Not long ago, Artificial Intelligence (AI) seemed like a concept from a science fiction film. Nowadays, it has become a common topic in boardroom discussions across Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

‎From banks combating fraud to retailers attempting to comprehend changing consumer behaviors, AI is no longer a distant prospect; it is essential for survival and growth in the present.

‎However, there is a challenge: many executives acknowledge terms like “machine learning” or “generative AI” without fully understanding their meanings. Without this understanding, making informed decisions becomes difficult.

‎Dotun Adeoye, Co-Founder of Artificial Intelligence in Nigeria, has expressed concern over students’ excessive dependence on these tools.

‎In an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday, Adeoye warned that these tools could render students ineffective if not moderated. He emphasized that AI should serve as a support mechanism rather than a complete solution for their work.

‎”The key is to integrate human intelligence into education. Relying entirely on AI is not advisable. If you depend on anything, not just AI, you risk becoming stagnant. You become accustomed to it.

‎”Students and the academic community must utilize AI as an aid or tool, but not as a definitive solution, as this can diminish critical thinking and personal development. Consequently, students may graduate without the ability to contribute meaningfully,” he stated.
