The Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed its zero tolerance for corruption and cautioned residents against filing frivolous petitions with anti-graft agencies.
Deputy Governor Dr Peter Akpe made the statement on Tuesday August 11, 2026 while receiving the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for Bayelsa and Rivers States at Government House, Yenagoa.
Dr. Akpe said the Prosperity Administration led by Governor Douye Diri does not tolerate corruption.
He expressed concern that the volume of petition files from Bayelsa at the ICPC was far higher than those from other states, including Lagos and Sokoto, and described most of them as unfounded.
“Our government believes in zero tolerance for corruption,” Akpe said. “While we will never tolerate corruption, our people should also know that frivolous petitions can land them in jail.”

He assured the ICPC of the state government’s support for public enlightenment campaigns.
Earlier, ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner Dr Ekere Usiere outlined the commission’s mandate to sensitise the public on the dangers of corruption.
She noted concern over petitions from Bayelsa communities regarding the management of Petroleum Industry Act funds and sought partnership with the state Ministry of Information for sensitisation programmes.
Dr. Usiere was accompanied by senior ICPC officers, including Mr Evans Peters, Mr Emmanuel Akpor, Mrs Tamaraudoubra Ebebi and Mr Frank Yileaziba.
