Alesa Community Backs King Apollos Chu as Nchia Traditional Ruler, Calls for Development in Eleme

King Chu of Alesa kingdom

The people of Alesa community in Eleme Local Government Area have pledged their loyalty to the traditional ruler of Nchia, His Royal Highness, King Apollos Chu, expressing confidence in his ability to lead with fairness and restore dignity to the traditional institution.

In the Newsobai report shared on Friday August 22, the Paramount Ruler of Ekongor Autonomous Community, Dr. Peter Olukanwi, who spoke on behalf of the Alesa Supreme Council of Chiefs and Elders, commended King Chu’s resilience during the long-standing chieftaincy tussle, which he eventually won at both the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Dr. Olukanwi said the judicial victories had confirmed the legitimacy of King Chu’s position, noting that the courts would not have ruled in his favour if his claim was not genuine. He assured the monarch of the full support of the Alesa traditional council.

“I, my council, and the Alesa council of Chiefs, are in total support of his leadership and we will continue to assure him of our loyalties,” Olukanwi affirmed.

He also expressed optimism that with the disputes finally resolved, King Chu would work hand-in-hand with His Royal Majesty, King Bebe Okpabi of Ogale, to pursue collective development across Eleme.

According to him, the new monarch is expected to introduce innovative approaches to governance within the traditional institution, while also engaging relevant stakeholders to bring visible improvements to the community.

He said, “I want to believe that by his exposure and involvement, we will be able to diplomatically approach all those companies to let them realize what their commitments are to the people. We will do well in that direction too.”

King Apollos Chu was recently inaugurated as the recognised traditional leader of Nchia following his victory at the Court of Appeal, which affirmed his claim to the chieftaincy title.
